A few weeks ago, my THRIVE! study group was working through Chapter 5: Speaking Your Vision. The group had already created their vision collages on Pinterest and had drafted their personal vision statements. When it was Nancy’s* turn to share her vision statement she said, “I wrote down a few things, but I am having a hard time saying it out loud.” She had been hesitant to read it out loud to herself because she thought it seemed too ambitious. She was also reluctant to share her vision statement with the group because she was afraid of how we might respond. Have you created your personal vision statement? Can you speak it out loud with conviction or are you a little hesitant like Nancy? Here are a few things to remember. A personal vision statement is personal. It is uniquely yours. It should be written in such a way that it is:

* futuristic,
* inspiring,
* ambitious,
* energizing, and
* reflective of your values.

When you take a look at your vision collage and your personal vision statement together, a smile should erupt across your face! Write it on a 3×5 card or sticky note. Post it some place where you will see it every day. In fact, post it in multiple places. When you see it on your bathroom mirror or on the refrigerator or on the dashboard of your car, say it out loud with conviction. You will be encouraged. Writing a personal vision statement requires courage. Speaking it out loud is an act of bravery. Be brave. Speak it out!
