Clothed with Compassion
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12 NIV
Last year, I had the privilege of becoming a Board Member of Map International. If you aren’t familiar with MAP International’s work around the world, you should be.
In 2016, MAP distributed $500 Million of medicines to 100 countries to serve 10 million people. In addition, Charity Navigator gave MAP a 4 Star Rating for the second consecutive year. Only 49 non-profit organizations out of 8,000 received a 4 Star Rating from Charity Navigator in 2016. Not only does MAP serve people around the world with compassion, MAP serves with efficiency and effectiveness.
After the most recent MAP Board Meeting two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to share my experiences and lead a session on Creative Leadership with MAP Country Directors from Liberia, Kenya, Bolivia, and Indonesia. I found myself inspired by their dedication to continued service in challenging areas of the world.
I reminded myself, as I drove home from the meetings, MAP International has served in this capacity around the world for over 60 years. During those years, there have been many natural disasters, civil wars, epidemics, and other humanitarian medical missions for which MAP has provided medicines and medical supplies. The key has been staying true to the mission and remaining clothed with compassion.
How can you serve your community with compassion right now?
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” Matthew 25:35-36 NIV
