A Reason Why
“Never walk away from someone who deserves help;
your hand is God’s hand for that person. Don’t tell your neighbor “Maybe some other time” or “Try me tomorrow” when the money’s right there in your pocket.” (Proverbs 3:27-28 MSG)
Recently, I had a conversation with someone who questioned why I would travel half way around the world to help children in Cambodia when there are so many children in need in the United States. Honestly, I don’t think my answer was a response that person could understand or accept.
The truth is I could have never planned becoming acquainted with the children in Cambodia. Yet, through a long series of events, my ability to help intersected with children at Cambodian Care Ministries’ Light of Future Schools who needed the help I could give.
In a similar way, I could have never imagined becoming acquainted with a young girl named Alnas who lives in Afghanistan. When I first learned about
Razia’s Ray of Hope Zabuli Education Center, she was a newly registered Grade 3 student. This unique, all-girls school provides K-12 education to girls in an area of the world where very few women receive a formal education. When I signed up to become a sponsor, Alnas was assigned to me. Unlike the children in Cambodia, I don’t know when I will ever have the opportunity to meet her in person, but I am committed to helping her achieve her education goals.
Today, I was so happy to receive a letter from her. This year, Alnas is one of 550 girls attending classes at the Zabuli Education Center. She’s now in Grade 5 and still desires to be a teacher when she grows up. I believe she will succeed. I’m very proud of her courage and determination.
Is there someone who deserves help in your world and you have the ability to help? Consider doing it today.
