Walking By Faith To Cambodia

“There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me.” (1 Corinthians 16:9 NLT)

Paul’s missionary journey’s were filled with adventure, danger, sickness, victory, and sorrow. He lived life one day at a time. He lived on the edge of his faith.

Many years ago, I was inspired to join my first mission construction team from reading about Paul’s journeys and listening to the testimonies of missionaries. Over the last 18 years, I have traveled on twenty-eight mission trips to locations from Central America to Eastern Europe. On October 28, 2013, I will be traveling with a mission team from Calvary Church to Cambodia Teen Challenge in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This Teen Challenge facility focuses on survivors of sex trafficking. I am looking forward to being there. As with every mission trip I ever participated in, I know that this trip will force me to live on the edge of my faith.

Many people have asked me over the years why I travel outside of the United States to do missions work when there are so many needs here at home. Mission trips require money and human resources that could be used domestically. So why go? For me, there are many reasons. Three of these reasons are:

1. Jesus commanded us to travel to the ends of the earth to share the Gospel. (Acts 1:8)

2, The work of one mission team can propel a sorely needed outreach to begin, to be more effective, or to overcome a roadblock.

3. I never want to get so comfortable in my faith that I don’t need faith.

What causes you to live on the edge of your faith?

“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NLT)
