Be Powerful

(This article is a repost from November 30, 2012)

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT)

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending Bobbi Brown’s book signing event for her new book “Pretty Powerful.”  I had seen the book one day when I was browsing in a bookstore and was intrigued by the tag line:  Be Pretty. Be Confident. Be Who You Are.  When I realized that there was going to be a makeup demonstration and a book signing in Miami, I didn’t waste anytime signing up.  I love her premise that every woman is pretty and every woman is powerful.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the book, here’s a link to her website:

A person who is thriving is a person who radiates personal power from the inside out.

I believe that personal power is a combination of emotional, spiritual, and physical power. Like a math problem:

(emotional power + physical power + spiritual power) = personal power

We can boost our physical power through regular exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate rest. We can also get good ideas on how to look our best from experts like Bobbi Brown. We can boost our emotional power through nurturing healthy relationships with our family, friends, and co-workers. Having a strong support system of friends and loved ones boosts confidence and helps us operate from a firm foundation. Here are some folks with a strong family support system…..

The third factor in the equation–spiritual power–is the most potent. Spiritual power comes to us not based on how we feel, how we look, or even how physically strong we are.  Spiritual power comes through faith.  Jesus said, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!    Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (John 7:37, 38 NLT  “Rivers of living water” is a powerful metaphor in scripture.  Rivers are mentioned in both Revelation 22: 1-2 and Ezekiel 47:1-12. Both of these rivers are described as flowing from the throne of God, stimulating life, healing and abundance. The potency of this water remains constant because the source is God’s throne. This is the river flowing from you and me as we place our faith in Jesus. This is spiritual power.  Whatever we do and wherever we go, this river is flowing, stimulating growth, healing and abundance all around us.

Take time to nurture your emotional power and to cultivate your physical power.  And build your faith in Jesus and experience supernatural spiritual power that can only come through Him.

Be Powerful!

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:19 NLT)
